Lovable or Claude Code? A plain comparison for beginners

Lovable and Claude Code both let you build software by describing it. They feel very different to use, and they suit different people. This page compares them for someone who has never written code.

The short answer

  • Pick Lovable if you want one web app or website quickly, inside your browser, and you are happy for it to live on Lovable’s platform.
  • Pick Claude Code if you want to make several kinds of things (websites, phone apps, short videos), keep the files on your own computer, and learn a way of working you can reuse.
  • Many people use both: Lovable to try an idea in an afternoon, Claude Code once they want full control.

What beginners notice first

Lovable is quicker to start. You open a web page, type an idea and see an app a minute later. There is nothing to install.

Claude Code asks more of you at the start. You install the Claude app, make a folder and get used to Claude asking permission before it changes a file. That takes an hour or so the first time.

It gives you more later. The files are yours, so you can open them in any editor, host them anywhere and change any detail. The same habits (plan the change, check the result, undo when it goes wrong) work for a website, an app or a video.

What both tools need from you

Both do best with a clear, small request, and both leave you to check the result. How well you describe what you want decides what you get.

Cost for a year, roughly

If you only ever need one simple website, Lovable’s free plan or a single month of Pro is enough. If you plan to make a site, keep changing it, and also try an app or promo videos, one Claude Pro plan covers all of it. Either way, the bill is a fraction of hiring a freelancer for each job.

Learn it with a facilitator

Our class uses Claude Code because one way of working covers a website, an app and a short video, and you keep all three. The free lesson below shows what changes when Claude can work in your folder instead of only answering in a chat window.
